DOU-DOLLS

Participants: Nahum Gutman, Liora Vogelman and Naama Ben-Moshe
"I've two dollies, daughters, darlings,
Tell me, which is prettier, sweeter
Aunts and uncles, she or she?"
Translator: Jessie Sampter
Since it was written, over a century ago, Chaim Nachman Bialik’s classic poem about the girls-dolls-twins took a life of its own as a Hebrew phrase and metaphor. The exhibition “Bubotayim” combines illustrations, books and dolls, in the aim of offering a contemporary and three-dimensional take on “Zilli and Gili,” this time as an exhibition at the Israel Museum. The Youth Wing’s illustration library will feature original illustrations by Nahum Gutman, on loan from the Nahum Gutman Museum; a puppet installation by toy collector Liora Vogelman, which will incorporate dolls from her private collection and the Youth Wing collection; and a soft, large-scale sculptural object created by designer Naama Ben-Moshe, inspired by the poem and initiated by Outline Festival.
